A two block area of downtown was designated as a state and national historic district in 2001.

Hillsville is served by two Chamber of Commerce. The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce is located in the old Carroll County Courthouse on N. Main Street and can be reached by phone at (276) 728-5397. The Twin County Regional Chamber of Commerce is located in Galax and can be reached at (276)236-2184.

The Town of Hillsville now accepts payments for utility bills and real estate/personal property taxes online and also by telephone 24 hours a day.
